Oh God, juno Dawson, I'm having flashbacks to his utterly bizarre performance of a woman on university challenge Christmas version, all pouts, hair flicking, and posing. He looked absolutely demented.
Have you seen the report in the Times about S Green vowing to carry on getting PBs for children via that company she has set up in defiance of the ban? That woman is one of the most evil women alive IMO.
Fairy Tale of New York is about two people who were supposed to be in love arguing so it isn't supposed to be happy. It is my favourite xmas song ever ( the original not the one they sometimes play now with the words changed or missing, I do appreciate that some people might not like those words now but they are used in the context of two people angry with each other).
Jonah Lewis Stop the Caverly is my second favourite, the video to the latter is excellent but also seems to be referencing the battle of Waterloo (the uniform he is wearing and his sweetheart being there at one point?) where a dance took place just prior to the battle and some of the attendees were killed in the subsequent battle?
Mud's Lonely this christmas is kind of in the same vein as FTONY isn't it? Xmas isn't always rhe happy time it is portrayed as being. I think people somtimes fall for all the hype and the enforced humour of the TV and online ads.
I work as a carer in a care home and will be working on Xmas Day and Boxing Day, there will be nice food and games and suchlike but how sad is it that some people will have no visitors and will not be taken out to visit family?
I'm already a bit ambiviant about Xmas but working there just reinforces it sometimes as my Mum is in a nursing home because she has advanced dementia and she loved to have a big family Xmas but now there is nothing left of her mentally.
I think you mentioned Steeleye Span and despite not being religious or believing in anything I do love their 'Gaudete' and as I did Latin at school (many years ago!) can even recognise some of the Latin words!

He said gay men were failed trans women, or something equally homophobic. So much self-loathing going on there.
Jack's love of darts never fails to delight me

Agreed 100%

Sorry. this is just a bit of a mental dump post!
I’m so sorry to hear about your mum, it must be very hard.
Thank you.

The first top ten single in the UK to be sung in Latin!
I just love Maddy Prior's voice, it's wonderful
